How to submit a claim for an old-age pension and an income supplement
The old-age pension does not arrive automatically. You need to submit a claim to the National Insurance Institute (ביטוח לאומי). If you are getting close to retirement age, it is worth starting a few months before.
Who is eligible
Eligibility is for residents of Israel whose center of life is in Israel. From age 70, the pension does not depend on income. Before age 70, after retirement age, the amount depends on income. Retirement age is different for men and women, and for women it depends on the year of birth. It is worth checking your exact age with the National Insurance Institute (*6050).
How to submit a claim
1. Go to the National Insurance Institute website (btl.gov.il) and choose a claim for an old-age pension. 2. Fill in the form and attach documents. You can do everything online. 3. You can also print a form, fill it in, scan it, and send it through the website. You can also send it by mail, by fax, or drop it in the box at a branch. 4. If something is missing, the National Insurance Institute will ask for more documents. 5. You get a letter of approval or rejection. 6. The pension is paid to your bank account on the 28th of the month.
- ID card (תעודת זהות)
- Bank account details in the applicant's name
- Documents about income, if you apply before age 70 or for an income supplement
- Pension documents, if you have them
Income supplement (השלמת הכנסה)
An income supplement is an extra payment added to the pension for people with very low income. The full list of conditions and amounts is on the National Insurance Institute website. If you are not sure whether you are entitled, it is worth checking. Submitting is usually done together with the claim for the pension.
A tip for the family
If your parent is not comfortable with the internet, you can call *6050 or go to a branch. You can submit on behalf of your parent, but it is worth checking ahead of time what approvals are needed for that.
This information is general and is not a substitute for advice. Eligibility and amounts are set by the National Insurance Institute.
